Principles of Design
Introduction

It was the first class for this course and we were asked to do a mind map about ourselves. We also were asked to draw a self-portrait using nature things (dried leaves, flowers, twigs, newspaper and etc).  We were given two and a half hours to do the tasks on A3 papers. Then, we have to present our works in front of our class and answer two questions which are why do you want to be a designer? and what shape and pattern do you like?

The picture above is a mind map that drawn by me. It took me two hours to make this because I was busy brainstorming about myself. I am satisfied with my work even though it looks messy a bit but I think this is the best-looking mind map I have ever drawn. I wrote about my general biography, interests, passions, hobbies and favourites. If you look closely in the middle of the paper, I drew a face and also wrote my name on it.

This is my self-portrait that I have made within 30 minutes. I like purple, so, I decorated my hijab with purple petals and make them as polkadots. I use yellow flowers for my pair of eyes and for my thick lips, I pasted pink petals on it. My self-portrait does not resembles me 100% but I have round face, thick lips and I wear hijab.

During the presentation session, I was the first one to present my works. I was required to explain about my mind map and also my self-portrait. When I finished explaining about my works, Ms. Lisa asked me, "Why do you want to be a designer?". I was so nervous and out of words too. I am so sorry that my answer was not as good as others. But, my real answer is every time I go to show houses, I always take the house plans because I was amazed by it and the plans inspire me to be an interior architecture. I also want to make other people happy and inspired by my works and at the same time design a homelike shelter for them. My answer for "What shape and pattern do you like?" was triangle and stripes.
