Photography: Task 3

Local Designs and Designers
When it comes to interior design, I have been admiring modern and industrial themes especially combination of both. The contrast between those two themes compliment each other really well. Malaysia has been exposed with modernism interiors since the old days. Till now, local designers are still designing spaces with modern characteristics. Nowadays, interior of a particular space plays an important role especially in cafes or better known as "hipster cafes". The aesthetic value of the interior attracts people to come and enjoy the services. Not just that, the space also gives an "Instagram worthy" picture to post on the social medias.

Some of my favourites local interior designs would definitely be Sekeping Houses designed by Seksan Design team. I have been to one of the houses in Pudu, Kuala Lumpur which known as Sekeping Sin Chew Kee with a close friend of mine. The first time I stepped into the house, I knew I would like the rest of the spaces available in the house. Indeed, it was a beautiful house where modern meets industrial theme (just how I love it!). I love the idea of putting modern materials in a bare, unfinished building to make it look more radical and pleasing. The usage of natural lighting and having greens surrounded the houses create the spaces look more therapeutic and calming.

Seksan Design have done an amazing job on designing the spaces of Sekeping Houses and that is why it is one of my favourite local designing firms. Even though its focus is towards landscape architecture and planning, but they have done interior designs along the way. Seksan is an internationally known architecture firm based in Kuala Lumpur. The team is led by the one and only Ng Sek San who founded the company in 1994. He trained in civil engineering before studying landscape architecture in New Zealand.

Sek San took advantage of Malaysia's natural ecological condition to design a building. He uses modern and natural materials for his works as our country has plenty of sources of those. By looking through his works, they are mostly towards simple modern-industrial fusion design contrasting with nature and that is why I adore Sek San's works.
