2-Dimensional Design

2-Dimensional Design

Assignment 4: Monogram Design (Final Project)
We received our final individual assignment from Ms. Lisa. Before that, we had a lecture about monograms and logos. After an hour of lecture, we were asked to look for five personal favourite designs or more in the library. We were given an hour to look for our favourite designs. Here are the designs that I personally like - thanks to Yanlin for capturing the photos for me!

Then, we headed back to class to show Ms. Lisa the selected favourite designs. In class, she asked us to form a group per table and discuss on what style suits for oneself based on the designs that we have picked in the library and then, we need to sketch 12 monograms using our initials. When it comes to my turn, I showed all the designs that I am into and Yasmin said that my style is funky - thank you! To be honest, I have no idea which part of myself that looks funky - LOL! As what you can see above, every designs that I have chose are different from each other. Frankly, I do not really know what my style is. So, I went back home and tried to sketch my monograms. On the next class, I showed my sketches to Ms. Lisa and she chose three. Then, I was asked to improvise the three chosen sketches. Once again, I showed her the improvised sketches, finally, she picked one final monogram for me and I like it, hehe. My six items are; coaster, phone case, notebook, drawstring bag, apron and table mat.

Rationale:
On 2nd January 2015, we were asked to print our monogram in class. Before attending the class, I cut my stencils into four different sizes. Then, I brought all the stuffs that I needed for printing to school and I started off with a trial on a clear file - and it worked! So, I decided to start printing on my six items and finish it all by Saturday morning. I used sponging technique which it was my first time and I love how the outcome looks like. Too bad the A4 ring file got ruined due to the hot weather :( So, I decided to use my apron for the substitution. The hardest part of doing this particular assignment was cutting out the stencils especially the smallest size. To be honest, cutout is not my forte but I tried my best to cut my stencils nicely. They turned out to look good after several times of cutting. Printing the repetitive design took me three hours to finish it - unbelievable! Despite all of the challenges I have went through, I have learnt new things and also, I had fun doing it even though my butt aches for sitting for long time, LOL.
