Introduction to Photography
Ungraded Exercise: Lighting

Lecture
Two weeks ago, Mr. Vinod asked us to search 1940s - 1950s photography and post the picture that we adore on Facebook because we will have a photo shoot session in school - which happened today and will continue on next Friday. Before we enter the photography studio, we had a short lecture about lightings. Firstly, he explained about the types of lights they have in the studio (main light, fill light, rim light, background light and hair light). All the lights have their own roles. We also learned about the types of lightings that can apply during photo shoot (butterfly lighting, broad lighting, rembrandt lighting, split lighting and loop lighting). Mr. Vinod said that we can create our own studio at home. For instance, we can use white umbrella as a reflector. After the brief lecture, we headed to the photography studio next door.

Notes

Instructions

Reflection (week 13)
experience: What I have experienced is at first, I was quite excited to work in the studio for the first time because I kinda like what I saw on television how professional photographers work in the studio. It was fun but tiring too because we have to change the position of the lights, the settings of the props for the model and the background. Moreover, we even have to touch up the make up and make sure the position of the model are similar as the photos that they chose. Towards the end of the photo shoot session, I was super exhausted - maybe because I was fasting. I have not take a photo and be the model yet because my turn is on next Friday.

observation: What I observed is setting up the lights in the studio was not an easy job to do if you do it alone because you need more people to do the settings and such. Teamwork is the trick to take an amazing photo. The job was very very very tiring too because we have move lift the heavy lights here and there in the photography studio. Besides that, reading and learning in class is not enough if you want to learn about studio lightings. You have to experience it and you will know almost everything and which lights are which while you are working in the studio.

findings: I learned something new while doing the work in the studio. We need everyone's cooperation because we cannot do the photo shoot alone - or else you will die due to exhaustion. Thank goodness, everyone did a great job in the studio today - around of applause for every single one of y'all! Even though it was tiring, I had fun because it was my first time working in a photography studio and also applying make up on other people's face which I did terribly terrible. Thank you, Mr. Vinod for this opportunity :)

Reflection (week 14)
experience: The second week of photo shoot session in the photography studio was better than last week's because we know what we need to do - even though we were not really that good yet. Like previous session, it was super tiring and you cannot do the settings alone. For this week, I was one of the models. Thanks to Imani for being my photographer. I thought it was an easy job to do but no, it was not at all. It was hard to get the right position and I had to stay still for awhile. Also, I photographed Imani and yes, it was not an easy job too. I had to give instructions to others about how the settings look like and how the model must look like. Thank you to my fellow classmates for helping me out during the photo shoot session!

observation: Being a model is not an easy thing to do. You have to pose perfectly and stay in that position for awhile. Despite of tiredness, it was fun as well. I do not think that the photo that I took in the studio looks good because it was my first time like others too - sorry, Imani! Like what I said in last week's reflection, you cannot do the work in the studio alone because you can die due to exhaustion. So, we have to be patient.

findings: I think that everyone did good because we helped each other out. I learnt a lot of things while working in the photography studio. Furthermore, I had fun too because others did great in everything. Once again, thank you, Mr. Vinod and fellow classmates :)

Photography for Fun with Wafaa's iPhone
I was wondering what will happen if I take photos using my iPhone in a photography studio where the settings of the place are complete with lights. The outcomes are great but not as amazing as DSLR tho. So here are some of the candid photos that I took:
