Introduction to Photography
Exercise 2(a): Aperture
Lecture
On today's class, Mr. Vinod lectured about aperture. Aperture controls the amount of light entering the lens. It placed in the lens and the diaphragm indicates the blade. Aperture has f-stops also known as f-numbers (f2, f4, f8, f16). What he said about aperture, the more we zoom, the higher the number of f-stop and vice versa. The main f-stops numbers are 2, 2.8, 4, 5.6, 8, 11, 16.
Then, Mr. Vinod said that aperture also ables to control the depth of field in the camera. The blurriness and sharpness of a picture depends on the f-stop. Small number of f-stop will get a blurry picture while large number of f-stop will get a sharp picture.
Exercise 2(a)(i): Aperture
- Take a picture of your repetitive subject starting with the right exposure combination of shutter speed and aperture.
- Start your aperture setting from the lowest number (f1.4/f2.0/f3.5)
- Do not change the shutter settings as the aperture is increased
Exercise 2(a)(ii): Aperture
- Take a picture of your repetitive subject starting with the right exposure combination of shutter speed and aperture
- Start your aperture setting from the lowest number (f1.4/f2.0/f3.5)
- Compensate the increase of your aperture with your shutter settings as the aperture is increased to maintain the right exposure
Marking Rubric
Exercise 2: Aperture (5%)
The student must capture the evidence of the Aperture’s influence in exposure using the various f-stops. The student must also capture the evidence of the Aperture’s influence on depth of field.

Feedback
general feedback: Mr. Vinod said that most of us are doing good on our ePortfolios.
specific feedback: Mr. Vinod messaged me via Facebook and he said that my exercise seemed accurate and it has fulfilled the criteria. Then, he thanked me for a well written ePortfolio and asked me to continue the good work. He also asked me to express myself freely negatively or positively with regard to the activities, lessons, learning in reflections.
Reflection
Reflection
experience: The class was fun during the discussion about aperture. At first, it was slightly awkward because it was our first discussion. But when one of us start asking, others and even myself start to discuss about the aperture and answer all the questions given. Some of us asked questions that even Mr. Vinod cannot answer. After a short lecture about aperture, we were asked to do the exercises of the day and we went outside of the classroom to take pictures. At first, I was blank but when Mr. Vinod explained and showed us how to use the camera, I can take the pictures better than before.
observation: I observe that after the discussion, I personally think that I have learned about aperture better and at the same time, I get to be close with my fellow classmates too. I also get to know more about aperture when I took pictures during the exercise session which was held outside of the classroom. In fact, I finally know how to use my DSLR without using the auto mode.
findings: I think that today's class was awesome and fun. Most of us were active learners because we asked a lot of questions during the class. I wanna thank Mr. Vinod for today because I have learned a lot about aperture and I finally know how to use the manual mode. Thank you, sir!
