2-Dimensional Design
Assignment 3: Unconventional Batik
For this assignment, Ms. Lisa asked us to form a group of four. So, Shu Ling, Wee Jie, Min Wei and myself are in one group. On 28th November, we were asked by Ms. Lisa to sketch our ideas. We sketched some of the ideas on Shu Ling's and my sketchbooks. At first, I thought its going to be hard because I never worked with Min Wei before and our styles are different. Surprisingly, he was okay with everything including some feminine sketches that I made - what a surprise huh? LOL! When we showed to Ms. Lisa, she liked the birds on the tree branch the most. My group mates and I planned on how to arrange the batik drafts. Since we have four of us in the group, we decided to make it seasons transition. For myself, I chose summer theme. Where as for Shu Ling is spring, Wee Jie is autumn and Min Wei is winter.

Rationale:
We went to Jadi Batik, Kuala Lumpur on 5th December 2014. It was an amazing yet fun experience for myself. I tried to do batik before in Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur when I was 14 but honestly, I barely remember how to do it. So, first things first, I traced my draft onto the cloth. It took me almost 20 minutes because the cloth was on my waist level and it was a little bit hard because I have to bend and yes, my back hurts so bad. At the same time, other people were tracing their drafts too so it was a bit cramped. Then, I used a tool called 'canting' to wax the outline on the cloth that I did. Oh gosh, it was challenging because everyone was doing it at the same time so it was a bit shaky and as a normal human being, I did some mistakes. Thankfully, a worker helped me to fix up my canting mistakes - thank you! Next, which is the fun part of batik, COLOURING! Honestly, I am not good in painting, so, it was a struggle for me to colour the batik parts. Thanks to Wee Jie for helping me out. He taught me and damn, he was a pro! My group mates helped me a lot, they were so helpful - love you guys! ♥ After I finished mine, I helped Shu Ling to colour her background because we wanna get the same background since we are going to connect our batik side by side once they have done fully. All in all, I have learned something new during the trip. It was a tiring yet great experience. Thank you, Ms. Lisa for this wonderful trip/assignment :)
