Brief Profile

Haris Rashid is a 23 years old local illustrator who graduated in Diploma in Illustrations from One Academy of Communication Design. His interest on drawing has started since he was in primary school. Most of his artworks are inspired by patterns, mixture of colours and geometric shapes of rich cultures such as Islamic art to Aztec designs. Haris loves to experiment on any types of mediums to see how far he can push himself creatively. His creations are mostly a range of illustration, typography, designs and fine arts. Now, he is a full time career artist.

The Progression
Like Ajim and Manje, we also contacted Haris Rashid through Imani's email. He replied us back and he agreed to be interviewed. He suggested to meet up at Frisky Goat, TTDI on Sunday.

So, on 23rd November 2014, my group mates and I went to Frisky Goat, TTDI. We arrived there first and it was very crowded yet noisy. So, Imani contacted Haris Rashid whether we can change the venue, and he suggested to go to another cafe nearby. There, we met him and we tried to film him. Due to the same reason, we ended up interviewing him at Serra's house which was not that far from the cafe. We did the interview at her backyard nearby the swimming pool. For this session, Imani, Shu Ling and Serra were in charge of interviewing him. As for Yanlin and myself, we were in charge to be the camera crew. Despite of Serra's "kakak" serving all of us teas and a random unknown Chinese lady entered her backyard, there were no any other difficulties during the interview was held.

Analysis
When Haris answered the questions, I realise that the way he thinks and the way we think are almost the same - maybe because our age gap are not that far since he is only 22 this year. I was quite surprised when he said that most of his artworks are meaningless. He just like the beauty of the elements that he added on the paintings. He also mentioned that he is an introvert but actually, for me, I think he is an optimist person who loves to try and discover something new especially when dealing with different kinds of mediums. From my observation based on all of his works, different artworks has different styles of painting techniques - and that is super cool! After the interview, we had a tea break with him - thank you Serra! It was nice meeting Haris Rashid in person and got to know him more. Thank you for having us and hope to see more 'amazeballs' artworks from you!
