Assignment 2: Expansion Of The Square
After the lecture/discussion we had, Ms. Maslisa asked us to sketch three or more sketches upon the question given; "What is your square?". At first, I was not really sure about the question but after few times of explanations by Ms. Maslisa, I think I understand what exactly the question is all about. Basically, it really is about the square - nothing related with your life or anything else. So, I decided to sketch snowflakes, feather, eyes and diamonds. After talking to Ms. Maslisa about my ideas, she chose snowflakes as my theme. Physically, snowflake is a clear and clean formation of the ice crystal. It is fragile and lightweight. Snowflake represents the winter season and the cold weather. It also  present an image of individuality,  purity. The geometric forms represent perfection. Snowflake also symbolises serenity, peace and tranquility. As for the colour, I chose dark blue because it represents coldness and the tiny splats details for the snowy effect.

Inspirations:
Why did I choose snowflakes in the first place? Well, I like the idea of it because personally, I got inspired by the famous Disney movie, Frozen (the theme song was stuck in my head at that time actually) and somehow it reminds me of my past too. I used to live in Canada for 2 years (if I am not mistaken?) when I was a little girl. I cannot really remember anything about what happened there, but, I know that my parents were very happy during the stay. Also, I travel a lot to other parts of the world like the Europe countries, USA and such because my family loves travelling especially cold weather countries. All in all, snowflake reminds me of my happy times with my family during our trips.

Rationale:
I have been loving snowflakes pattern. So, for this assignment, I want to challenge myself and also learn about snowflakes deeper at the same time. As you can see, the pattern of snowflake is complicated. As what I expected, it was hard to cut the details especially the tiny ones. It took me hours to just cut one snowflake. Of course, I failed thrice for the symmetrical cutout and twice for the asymmetrical cutout. Even though I failed for several times (and I cried because it was too hard - LOL Wafaa), I managed to cut the snowflakes in time by changing the blades and also used thick paper because it is easy to cut due to its firmness and solidness. In a nutshell, it was a great experience because I enjoyed doing it even though I have done the cutout on the first semester.
