About The Photographer:
Wafaa' Najihah Binti Mohd. Halim (born on 20th March 1996, Malaysia) currently studying Introduction to Photography in Taylor's University Lakeside Campus, Subang Jaya. I decided to take this particular subject in the beginning of the semester because I wanted to study photography since I bought a DSLR and I have no idea how to use the manual mode. I got through the 16 weeks of this photography course with the knowledge I gained from each and every classes I attended and practices that I did. Without any basic knowledge at first, now, I am able to use the manual settings of the DSLR effectively.
About The Photograph:
All of my photos were taken in Masjid Putra, Putrajaya. At first, we were asked to think about the theme that we wanted to use for this final project. Out of three choices (masquerade, old building and mosque), I chose mosque because it resembles me as a Muslim and I want to show other people the beauty of a mosque. In fact, it is easy for me to go back and forth to the mosque since it is not that far from the place where I currently live, Puchong. My final photos are majorly focused on the architecture of the particular mosque.
The first photo is actually a chandelier. I decided to take photo from below and zoom in a bit to focus on the stunning details of it. I cropped and enhanced the photo to make it look more presentable. The second photo was taken on the second floor and it is a unique looking ceiling from a symmetrical composition. The subject in the third photo is called minaret where Adhan may be called. The shot was taken in one shot only from below which approximately 2 m far from the tall building. The fourth photo is a shot that I snapped at dawn from outside of the mosque. The contrast between the sky and the building itself makes the picture more attractive. On the last photo, I am actually focusing on the detail of the carpet and also the entrance of the mosque. The person in the photo is in a du’a (praying) position.
On the first week, I decided to take photos around 6 – 7 pm which made them turned out to look good because the colour of the sky is contrast to the building because it was quite dark at that moment. So, I set my camera in low range of aperture; f/11 and 1/80 and 1/100 on shutter speed. But, when I went to the venue on the second week, my photos look quite dull due to the hazy weather. I controlled the exposure but the photos turned out not so good because the haze was so bad. Then, I decided to take shots of the details inside the mosque. On the third and fourth week, I decided to focus on the inside of the mosque instead since the interior of Masjid Putra looks amazing. On the fifth week, I had difficulties to enter the mosque, so, I decided to take photos of it from far. Basically, I used low range of aperture, range of 1/80 - 1/200 for shutter speed and 200 for ISO.

experience: For now, all I need to do is to print the 5 final images that I have picked. I went to the photo printing shop somewhere in SS2 with my fellow classmates. When we arrived, a worker there explained to us about photo printing and different type of photo papers they have. If we print using the inkjet printer, it only takes few hours to print photos but if we print in the dark room, it takes few days to print but the outcome is better than using the inkjet printer. We transferred our photos to the computer and she, the worker, checked our photos and she said that the size of our images are wrong, so, we have to redo all over again. Thank you to Katrina (life saviour on that day), she did for most of us in her laptop by the guidance of one of the workers there. I have learnt a lot during the "short lecture" about photoshop such as we cannot use photos that have been edited in other softwares and edit it in photoshop because the image size will be smaller. So, if want to edit a photo in Adobe photoshop, we need to use the original photo without changing anything in any softwares. Unfortunately, my photo was not original because it was taken from my blog and at that time, I did not bring my laptop or pen drive to transfer my original photo. So, I did not print a test print for myself.
observation: What I observed is do not ever think that photo printing is an easy job because it is not - at all! You have to make sure everything is perfect before you start printing a photo. One important thing that I learnt is do not leave the original copy because you do not know what might happen to you in future.
findings: I think I learnt a lot on that day. We learn better when we make mistakes, right? That is what Mr. Charles told the whole class, including myself during his lecture. Other than that, I learnt more on how to edit the image size and canvas size and what not to do when editing images on Adobe photoshop. Thank you to the workers in the photo printing shop :)
